Another report confirms that the Galaxy S24 will launch earlier than expected

Some rumors have claimed that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S24 earlier than usual, and it seems that it is indeed the case. A new report from South Korea confirms that Samsung will release its next generation of flagship smartphones in January 2024 to make up for the weak performance of its semiconductor chip division.

The Galaxy S24 release date is January 17, 2024

A report from SBS Biz claims that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S24 on January 17, 2024 in San Francisco, United States. According to reports, the company has finalized its plans for the launch event and preparations have begun. It also confirms that the Galaxy S23 FE will launch in South Korea on December 1, 2023 with a price tag of KRW 800,000 (around $600). It has been three years since the launch of the Galaxy S Fan Edition smartphone series in South Korea. South Koreans prefer higher-end phones, but Samsung has decided to launch the Galaxy S23 FE as an affordable model due to the ongoing economic recession and sluggish market.

The Korean company is reportedly looking at the Galaxy S24 series as the company’s savior amid challenging times. The report claims that the Galaxy S24 will be an “AI phone” that will feature generative AI like ChatGPT and Dall-E. Samsung has already announced its in-house Exynos 2400 processor and revealed that it has 30% faster GPU, 70% faster GPU and 14.7 times faster NPU. It can perform on-device AI processing and enable generative AI features such as text-to-image conversion. Samsung is also said to bring a titanium frame to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, similar to the new iPhone 15 Pro series. All the devices are rumored to have a Dynamic AMOLED 2x LTPO display with a maximum brightness of 2500 nits.

Samsung usually releases its new Galaxy S series phones at the end of February every year and starts shipping the phones from the beginning of March. However, the company launched the Galaxy S23 in early February and started shipping it before the end of the month. With the Galaxy S24 series, it will launch the phones even earlier (mid-January 2024) and could start shipping devices by the end of that month.

Author’s note: Usually, Samsung’s semiconductor chip division brings the company the most revenue. However, since last year, the demand for semiconductor chips has decreased due to the market stagnation, which has led to terrible sales and lower prices of memory chips. As a result, Samsung Electronics’ overall operating profit fell 96% in the first quarter of 2023, and its semiconductor division reported its first-ever loss in the second quarter of 2023. Its huge losses came with good sales of high-end smartphones, including the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5.

While the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 performed well during the pre-order period, their sales reportedly fell to a lower-than-expected level. Hence, to compensate for lower sales, Samsung could release the Galaxy S24 series earlier than usual. It is also a tactic that could be aimed at controlling the competition among Apple’s iPhone 15.
