Even Apple Makes Mistakes: 4 Big iPhone Mistakes

Although this is not the first time that Apple has started working with the iPhone. Here are four of the most notable iPhone failures over the years.

The last iPhone debacle on Apple’s part was just last year, as many iPhone 14 Pro models suffered from weird camera noise.

It turns out that the Pro lines camera stabilizer gets quite tired when using third-party apps and vibrates to the point of making a clicking noise. Luckily it wasn’t a hardware issue as an iOS update fixed it. Nevertheless, this was still a major flaw that slipped through the cracks in Apple’s testing.

antenna

Probably the biggest early iPhone debacle was the so-called Antennagate controversy. 2010’s iPhone 4 featured a sleek design with flat metal edges, with antenna lines at various points on the edge to facilitate connectivity.

Apple’s mistake with the iPhone 4 is the birth of the “you’re wrong” paradigm.

Unfortunately, the placement of these antenna lines means that your hand will block them, resulting in severely reduced cell signal and dropped calls. Apple ridiculously told customers that they simply held the phone wrong. It will eventually issue a free protective case accessory to iPhone 4 owners to alleviate the problem.

Stifling old iPhones

Our devices can slow down over time, although there are a few tips to speed up an old phone. This slowdown isn’t usually an intentional move on the part of manufacturers, but Apple actually slows down its older iPhones on purpose.

Owners of older iPhones, such as the iPhone 6 and 6S, discovered lower scores in late 2017, suggesting that Apple is throttling these phones. It turns out that the company is doing this to reduce problems with older batteries, such as devices shutting down under heavy load.

Slowing iPhones was a problem. Doing it without informing the users even more.

The fact that Apple slowed down iPhones was a big problem, but you could argue that the decision to do so without users’ knowledge was a bigger problem. The Cupertino company is rolling out an iPhone update that lets users see battery health information while offering a $50 discount on battery replacements.

Bendgate

Apple introduced the iPhone 6 series in 2014 and this was the first time we saw the Plus device. However, these iPhones were the subject of the Bendgate controversy.

Third-party bend tests have shown that the iPhone 6 series is far more likely to bend than previous devices. And the problem had some real-world consequences, too, as people reported that their phones bent when the iPhone 16 Plus was in their pockets and they sat or bent over.

Apple’s own internal documents show that the iPhone 6 series is much more likely to bend than the iPhone 5s. Unfortunately, the company was not upfront with consumers about this. At least Apple fixed this problem with the iPhone 6s (seen above).
